"So, do you think you can find him?" Dr. Doctor asked. A man and a woman sat on the couch in front of him.
The man took a long drag of his cigarette and answered, "Mr, we find robots for a living, finding some little one won't be a problem."
The woman nodded and sipped more of her drink.
Dr. Doctor smiled widely and leaned over to hug the man. "Thank you so much! You have no idea how important this boy is! He is the first," Dr. Doctor looked around the room to see if anybody was eavesdropping, then lowered his voice to a whisper. "He is the first shape shifting robot! He has no idea how to work this amazing power yet, but once I teach him using the data on this disk, he will be a valuable asset to my work!"
The woman took the disk. "We may need this, if we do have problems finding him, it has his information so we could track him. Once you do get him back and load this into him, will you share him with RobotsRule!? You know, that cooperation that studies robots and makes those great scientific breakthroughs and everything." She asked, and Dr. Doctor laughed.
"No, if I keep him to myself I can make a huge army of shape shifting robots and rule the world!" he declared and shot his fist into the air.
The man and woman glanced at each other, then stood. "We will get to work immediately to find this robot for you." The man said, placing his cigarette on the coffee table.
"Yes, and we will contact you when we capture him." The woman added.
Then they left the lab, leaving Dr. Doctor alone to do his happy dance.
"So," the man said, after getting a few feet away from the entrance to the lab, "Are we going to turn him in to RobotsRule!, or will we give him to that freak back there?"
The woman stuck her tounge out at the man. "What do you think? RobotsRule! will fire us if we don't give that boy to them."
She pulled out the disk and examined it. "It's a good thing that guy gave us this, or that kid would be just another ordinary robot. We sure came up with a good idea when we started advertising in that Evil Scientist Monthly magazine as robot retrievers, we've been pulling their runaways in like crazy."
The man nodded, and knelt down. "I see tracks in the snow, they look like a size six shoe." He stood up and followed them, the woman followed.
"Look at this!" The woman exclaimed and pointed at a glop of silver goo. "What do you think it is?"
The man looked closely at it, then scooped it up and put it into a baggie. "I don't know, but it probably came from the robot boy."
The woman nodded, then pointed at the ground again, this time a little bit farther ahead. "These tracks look like he was running. And over there- there's another persons tracks!" She said.
The man's eyes widened and they followed the tracks again, this time running.
A few minutes later they stopped running.
"Did you hear that?" The man asked.
The woman nodded and pulled the disk out. "The disk is pulsing, the robot is near!" She whispered.
They stood still and listened to the sound of running in the snow. The sound grew louder, and they could hear somebody breathing heavily. Then a very short boy with long yellow-blonde hair burst out of the trees and collapsed onto the ground.
The woman ran to him and sat down. "Are you okay?" She asked him.
The boy gasped and rolled away from her.
"Who are you?" He asked, his eyes wide in fear.
"I am Betty, and this is Carl. We're here to help you." She said softly.
"I'm Timothy, do you have any water?”Timothy asked.
Carl approached him. “Here, have as much as you need.” He said and handed Timothy his canteen.
“Is this the kid?” He whispered in Betty’s ear. Betty nodded and helped Timothy sit upright.
After Timothy drank all of the water in the canteen, he jumped up and yelled “We have to get out of here! That crazy bum Harold is trying to catch me and send me back to Amish Land!”
Carl attached the empty canteen to his belt and asked “Wait, who?”
Timothy looked over his shoulder and bit his lip. “Harold. He was hired by this Amish guy, Matthew, that I used to live with years ago, until I ran away. He got me earlier, but I escaped and ran into you guys.”
Betty frowned, and took Timothy’s hand. “Well, we’ll get out of here then. Come on, our car isn’t to far.” She said and started walking.
“Wait, I shouldn’t go with you people. My adopted mom said to never go anywhere with people I don’t know.” Carl smiled warmly and put his hand on Timothy’s shoulder.
“But you do know us. Remember? We told you our names! Besides, if we were going to kidnap you we would of just grabbed you and ran.”
Timothy stared at him for a while, then smiled widely. “I guess you’re right. And anybody is better than Harold or Matthew!”
So the three of them left and headed towards Betty and Carl’s car, which was parked at the edge of the woods, half a mile from Dr. Doctor’s lab. Timothy situated himself in the back of the car, and laid down on the seat. Carl started the car and they drove away.
Hours later that night, Carl pulled into a dark parking lot in front of a large building.
“We’re here.” He whispered into Betty’s ear, who woke up immediately and got out.
"Wake up Timothy, we’re here.” She shook Timothy gently.
Timothy sat up and rubbed his eyes sleepily.
“Where is ‘here’?” He asked.
Betty smiled and said “RobotsRule!.”
Timothy frowned. “I’ve heard of this place, isn’t it some big cooperation on the news all the time ‘cuz they keep making new inventions? Why are we here?” He asked, but before Betty could reply the lights in the parking lot all turned on, and a group of people came out of the large building.
“This is a first, they’re actually coming to see us. Timothy must be pretty important.” Carl said and waved at the people.
“Hello you two! Glad you finally made it!” One of the people, a man, said in greeting.
“So, this is little Timothy! Welcome to RobotsRule! I’m sure you’re going to love it here.” A lady exclaimed and shook his hand.
“Um, hi. Who are you people?” Timothy asked.
A boy that looked about ten stepped out of the middle of the crowd. “I am the head of RobotsRule!, these people are all of my top inventors and scientists.” He said to Timothy and faced Betty and Carl.
“Did you get any data or anything from that wack job that employed you two?” He asked.
Betty nodded excitedly and pulled out the disk.
The boy took it and examined it eagerly. “Perfect, absolutely wonderful!” He said and tucked the disk into his pocket. “Well, you three must be cold and everything. Let’s go inside and get warmed up.
An hour later, after everybody ate, the boy stood up and dismissed everybody but Timothy from the room. When they left the boy shook Timothy’s hand and grinned widely.
“I’m sorry that I didn’t introduce myself properly earlier. My name is Adam.” He said and pulled a laptop computer out of a bag he had next to him on the floor.
He began typing, but continued talking. “I have a disk that I need to install into you, so could you turn around and lift up your hair?”
Timothy frowned. “Um, install? What do you mean?” He asked, but turned around so his back was facing Adam, and lifted his hair, revealing his neck.
“Thanks. This disk has all of the information that Dr. Doctor programmed for you to make it so you can do something amazing, change shape.” He pulled a wire out of his bag and connected it to his laptop.
“What do you mean information? Wait... do you think I’m a robot too?”
Adam shook his head. “No, I don’t think you are, I know you are!” He said and stuck the other end of the wire into a slot in Timothy’s neck.
Timothy jumped and tried to pull it out.
“Don’t do that! Just wait a second!” Adam yelled, and slid the disk into the drive in his computer. He pressed a button, and whispered “This may hurt a bit.”
Timothy stood still for a second, then passed out.
