Timothy sat down on the swivel chair behind the desk and put his head in his hands. “I want to go home,” He sniffled, “I want my mom.” He rolled the chair backwards a few feet and spun around to face the chalkboard wall that was behind him. There were many equations and drawings scribbled all over it, one of a small boy. It was labeled PROJECT MORPH. “Project Morph? Wonder what that is...” Timothy said quietly, then froze. He heard somebody opening the door. He dropped to the floor and crawled under the desk, tucking his knees to his chest. High heeled shoes clicked across the room to one of the computers in the middle of the room. Timothy peered under the desk and saw the lady scientist from earlier. He sighed in relief, she wouldn’t hurt him. He started to get out from under the desk when another scientist and Adam came into view. “What are you doing, checking your emails?” Adam looked over Dr. Cheldow’s shoulder as she signed onto the computer. “No, I’m going to check some of the security cameras to see if Timoth- the robot is around here.” She said and clicked on an icon that opened an empty window. She typed a few more words and some boxed popped up. She selected “Play All” on the menu and they all began to show what each one’s security camera recorded that day. They all stood there and quietly watched them, until another one of the scientists shouted “There it is!” and pointed at a small figure crouched under a desk. “Check what room this camera is for!” Adam demanded, and Dr. Cheldow complied. “Would you look at that, he’s right here!” Adam laughed and walked slowly to the back of the room. Timothy heard everything they said, and pressed himself as hard as he could against the desk. “Timothy, where are you?” Adam chanted softly, grinning darkly. “We are not going to hurt you, we just want to talk to you. Come out, come out wherever you are...” Timothy shut his eyes tightly and clenched his teeth. I wish I was invisible... I wish he wouldn’t be able to see me... he repeated in his head, on the verge of tears. “I can hear you whimpering Timothy. Just come on out so we can talk.” Adam said, and ducked his head down so he could look under the desk. “I see you- What?” He shouted and spun around to face Dr. Cheldow. “Check the camera location again.” He growled and stormed over to her. Dr. Cheldow bit her lip and began typing, then shook her head. “It’s in this room. I’m sure of it.” She said firmly. “Um, maybe he is here.” One of the younger scientists said quietly. Adam glared at her and snarled “So you think I’m blind or something?” The scientist shook her head and continued, “Check the camera footage now. Can you see him there?” Dr. Cheldow checked then looked up at the others, her eyes wide. “He isn’t!” Adam made a chocking noise and pushed Dr. Cheldow aside so he could see. “Maybe he ran off while we weren’t looking at the camera.” He said, and the young scientist shook her head. “Sir, can’t he change shape? Maybe he changed into something small.” Adam considered the thought, then said “No, he’d have to turn into a bug or something and I think he cannot do that yet.” Dr. Cheldow rolled her eyes, Always so stubborn , she thought and said, “But it’s a possibility. You said before that with time he could change into different species and even inanimate objects.” Adam glared at her, “Note I said ‘with time’. There is no way he would be able to do that yet. Now lets go, we can check the other labs.” He turned around and walked to the door, and they followed him. Right before one of the scientists closed the door a small bug ran through into the hallway. It was breathing heavily and ran off in the opposite direction as the group of people. |
